Through the program, the coast guards aimed to raise public awareness of national sovereignty over sea and islands, legal regulations on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, drug prevention, and the functions and duties of the Vietnam Coast Guard. It also included activities related to social policy and welfare support for local communities.

As part of the event, Coast Guard Region 4 screened a documentary, titled “Mock trial,” involving a criminal case related to IUU fishing. The screening was combined with dissemination of information about Vietnam’s law system and the Law on the Vietnam Coast Guard, thereby enhancing fishermen’s legal awareness when engaging in offshore fishing. In addition, coast guard officers directly visited fishing vessels operating near the Nam Du islands and boats docked at local ports to distribute national flags, portraits of President Ho Chi Minh, and first-aid kits, while also conducting legal outreach.

Policy families and needy fishermen receiving gifts

On this occasion, Coast Guard Region 4 presented gifts, worth VND 1 million each, to 15 policy families and disadvantaged fishing households, 10 needy students with good academic results students. The unit also provided sponsorship for three students, each receiving VND 9 million per year, with the total value of support amounting to VND 52 million.

The program “Coast guards stand by fishermen” in Kien Hai left a positive impression on local Party committees, authorities, and residents, particularly boat owners and fishing vessel captains. It reaffirmed the Vietnam Coast Guard’s role in safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and safety at sea and on islands, while building firm “the people’s heart posture” on the nation’s maritime frontier.
