Deputy Defense Minister and head of the steering committee Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien chaired the event.
The meeting announced the decision on the establishment of the steering committee for building a plan on hosting the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024, emphasized the significance and necessity of organizing the expo, and proposed options of time, venue, and scale of the event.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Chief of the General Staff and deputy head of the steering committee Sr. Lt. Gen. Phung Si Tan said that the expo should be a place to educate people about national defense and security and bear both defense and economic meaning.
He asked agencies and units of the Ministry of National Defense to heighten their responsibility and closely work together to complete the plan as scheduled, meeting all set targets.
Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien praised the General Department of Defense Industry for thoroughly preparing and building the outline of the plan. He requested that the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024 project must be associated with the plan on organizing activities to celebrate the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army so as to facilitate the organization and reception of international guests.
The deputy defense minister added that the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024 should be built based on lessons learnt from the edition in 2022. He also emphasized the need to soon establish the event’s organizing panel, clearly define the form of exhibition, and diversify weapons and products to be displayed at the event.
He affirmed that the expo is a practical event to actualize Vietnam’s guidelines and policies on international integration and external defense relations. It also creates an opportunity for Vietnamese military businesses to promote trade, seek and expand international cooperation, thus strengthening the development of Vietnamese defense industry.
