At the event, Major General Vy Van Sy, Director of the Department of Military Training of the General Staff, briefed on achievements of the military sport team last year. In 2018 military athletes bagged 206 medals, including 58 golds, 61 silvers, and 86 bronzes and broke 27 records. More importantly, those in the national delegations participating in international sports events won medals of different kinds.

Gen. Giang presenting Defense Ministry’s certificates of merits to four groups

On behalf of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and the General Staff, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister, congratulated military coaches and athletes on their great achievements in 2018.

He asked relevant agencies and units to pay attention to identifying shortcomings last year, further developing sports of their strength, training a contingent of competent athletes to participate in national sport events.

At the event, the organizers handed over Defense Ministry’s certificates of merits to four groups and 117 individuals and the General Staff’s certificates of merits to 6 groups and 124 individuals.

This year, the General Staff also acknowledged 106 individuals with great achievements at the 8th National Sports Congress and international sport events in 2018.
