PANO – The men’s and women’s military teams from Khanh Hoa ranked first at the freshly-ended 57th National Run and Marathon Tournament organized by the Tien Phong (Vanguard) Newspaper in Can Tho city. 

This year’s event attracted the participation of nearly 300 professional and amateur athletes from 32 units across the country. They competed in 11 categories, including 42km marathon for men and women, 10km, 5km, 3.5km runs and other events for young and amateur athletes.

After fierce competitions, the winner of each category was named. Military athletes Hoang Thi Thanh and Do Quoc Luat won first prizes in the women’s marathon and the men’s 10km run categories, respectively. In the women’s categories, Pham Thi Hue from Quang Ninh ranked first in the 5km run, while first position of the 3.5km event went to Pham Thi Thuy Hanh from Ha Nam. Le Trung Duc from Thanh Hoa and Bui The Anh from the military team bagged first prizes in the men’s 7km and marathon.

Kicked off for the first time 57 years ago, the National Run and Marathon Tournament has helped seek many talents for Vietnam’s athletics, including Bui Luong, Nguyen Van Thủy, Luu Van Hung, Pham Dinh Khanh Doan, Doan Nu Truc Van, Truong Thanh Hang, Nguyen Chi Dong, Pham Thi Binh.
