New Commander of Military Region 5 appointed
PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) and Deputy Defense Minister, on October 30 chaired a meeting, in which retired Lieutenant General Nguyen Long Cang handed over the post of the Commander of Military Region 5 to Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc, former Director of the Military Operation Department of the General Staff of the VPA.
The event saw the attendance of representatives from the VPA’s General Staff, and other relevant units of the Ministry of National Defense, and MR 5.
On behalf of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and the MND, Gen. Giang congratulated Lieutenant General Nguyen Long Cang on his retirement and his contribution to MR 5 over the past years.
Congratulating Gen. Ngoc on his new position, Gen. Giang hoped that the newly-appointed Commander of MR 5 will continue to actively and proactively give advice to the CMC and the MND on the local situation, and successfully complete all assigned tasks.
In addition, he also asked the MR 5 to embrace and implement the instructions and resolutions of the Party, the State, the CMD, and the MND, on military and defense activities, and effectively take measures to deal with natural disasters, as well as carry out search and rescue missions.
The Deputy Defense Minister also expressed his hope that in the coming time, MR 5 will continue to promote its glorious tradition, focus on building the all-people’s defense posture and all-people’s security posture, effectively carry out external defense affairs, improve troops' material and spiritual lives, and successfully complete all tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.
