MND checks IUU fishing prevention efforts in Ca Mau

The delegation inspected several areas, including the dissemination of the Party’s guidelines and the State’s laws on combating IUU fishing, as well as guidance for fishermen on understanding and following the fishing activity map at sea; management of fishing vessels and individuals suspected of violations; inspection and control of vessel departures and arrivals at ports and fishing harbors, including the implementation of departure and arrival procedures via the eCDT system; and the organization of patrols, inspections and controls of fishing vessels at fishing ports, anchorages, coastal areas and waters around nearshore islands, as well as the handling of IUU fishing violations.

Concluding the inspection, Sr. Col. Bui Yen Tinh praised the efforts of Ca Mau border guards and coordinating forces, which have achieved positive results in combating IUU fishing in recent times. He requested that units continue to concentrate personnel and resources to resolutely and effectively implement directives from the Government, the Ministry of National Defense, the Border Guard Command and the provincial People’s Committee on combating IUU fishing.

The head of the delegation also stressed the need to strictly maintain inspection and control procedures and use vessel management and monitoring software effectively; closely manage people and vessels entering and leaving sea gates; and resolutely prevent vessels without adequate procedures and documentation from operating at sea.

Relevant agencies were asked to raise awareness of fishermen on the basic legal regulations on combating IUU fishing.
