Facts show that the units have closely coordinated with local Party committees, authorities to carry out scores of activities in preparation for the day: launching emulation movements; carrying out gratitude activities; caring for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; double-checking the list of local martyrs, wounded soldiers and policy beneficiary families; paying visits and offering gifts to national contributors; and honoring groups and individuals lending great assistance to policy beneficiary families.

Since early this year, Military Region 7 has repatriated 283 sets of remains of martyrs. Most of them were Vietnamese experts and voluntary troops who had sacrificed themselves while doing international service in Cambodia. The unit also built 11 houses for policy beneficiary families; offered free health checkups and medicines for more than 109,600 beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, Army Corps 4 has completed its list of 38,000 martyrs; and constructed 10 gratitude and comradeship houses for the needy.

Having inspected the units and heard reports from the chain-of-commands, Gen. Le Chiem emphasized that such activities showed a high sense of responsibility of army units for national contributors of all kinds, upheld the gratitude tradition of the nation, and left deep impression on the hearts of local people.

The general urged all units in the region to team up with relevant local organizations to improve public awareness of the Martyrs’ and Wounded Soldier’s Day and to do good deeds to martyrs’ families and wounded soldiers; to implement more practical movements; to address shortcomings in realizing policies for martyrs’ families, wounded troops and national contributors; and gear up search and repatriation of martyrs’ remains.

Earlier the same day, Gen. Le Chiem and his entourage paid homage to martyrs at the Tra Vo War Cemetery in Go Dau district, Tay Ninh province.
