MR1 Commander, Lieutenant General Tran Hong Minh briefed General Lich and his entourage on the region’s outcomes in implementing military-defense missions in the first nine months of this year.
Specifically, the region embraced the Party’s and State’s resolutions, directives, regulations and the Central Military Commission’s and Defense Ministry’s documents on military-defense tasks.
The integrated quality and combat strength of MR1’s armed forces were enhanced while its affiliated agencies and units strictly observed combat readiness while working closely with local policemen to forecast precisely situational developments, maintain political security, social order and safety and to firmly safeguard the national border sovereignty.

Besides, MR1’s chain-of-command coordinated with the local Party Committee and relevant authorities to direct the building of the people’s defense disposition coupled with the people’s security posture and the building of a strong defensive area as well. In addition, due attention was paid to improving the quality of training while positive changes were seen in the regularity building and observance of the State law and military discipline.
Also at the meeting, under the chair of General Lich, Lieutenant General Tran Hong Minh handed over the position of MR1 Commander to Major General Nguyen Hong Thai. Earlier, General Minh had been assigned to the post of Director of the General Department of Defense Industry.
In his closing speech, General Lich hailed MR1 in general and generals Minh and Thai in particular for their outstanding task performance.
The defense minister expressed deep gratitude to Party Committees and authorities of provinces in the region for their support for the region’s armed forces.
He stated that MR1’s Party Committee and chain-of-command should continue embracing higher levels’ resolutions and directives, closely coordinate with local Party committees and authorities, raise leadership capability and combat strength of the Party committees and Party organizations. They should also build comprehensively-strong local armed forces to be capable of undertaking and completing all assignments.
The defense minister believed that in new posts, both generals Minh and Thai will bring into full play their accomplishments and experience and exert all-out efforts to fulfill tasks assigned by the Party, State, military and people.
