PANO – Leaders of the Ministry of National Defence and the General Department of Politics paid Lunar New Year (Tet) visits to some localities and army units.

* On January 23rd, Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich, Director of the General Department of Politics, extended his Tet wishes to the People’s Army Newspaper.

He held that in the coming time, the newspaper should continuously enhance its journalists’ professionalism, strictly follow its principles, uphold the tradition, and firmly keep its position as one of the leading newspapers in Vietnam.

The general wished the newspaper more successes, contributing to building a politically strong army.

* Earlier, on January 22nd, in Ha Nam and Hung Yen provinces, Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich was briefed on achievements in culture and socio-economy, military and defence tasks, training and combat readiness, social order, and preparations for the coming Tet holiday by local authorities and armed forces.

For his part, he hailed the provinces’ development over the past time and underlined that they should effectively carry out targets set in resolutions of Party congresses at all levels, attach more importance to people and troops’ living standards, disseminate locals to implement policies and guidelines of the Party and State, maintain the watch and combat readiness, well respond to the “Army units joining hands in building new rural areas” campaign, and care for needy persons and policy beneficiaries for the traditional Tet festival.

* The same day, a mission of the Ministry of National Defence, led by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Deputy Minister of National Defence, visited units of the Navy, Vietnam Marine Police and Border Guards stationed in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

The general asked the units to thoroughly grasp local situations to deal with all problems in any circumstances, promote patrols to fight crime, heighten troops’ firm political stance and put them on standby for rescue missions if required, promptly commend and reward organizations and individuals with outstanding results, and minimize the number of violations of State law and Army regulations.

All units should ensure security and stand combat readiness while enjoying the traditional Tet festival economically and safely, added General Cung.

Besides, he inquired after wounded and sick soldiers in the province’s Long Dat Convalescent Centre, as well as gave a gift, including an ambulance, 2 air-conditioners and 3 water filters, worth totally VND 800 million, to the centre.

* Previously, Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics, sent his Tet greetings to troops in Regiment 9, Division 8, Military Zone 9.

He urged the unit to bring into play its tradition to improve revolutionary vigilance and combat readiness and ensure an economical, happy and safe Tet holiday for its troops and local people.
