During the event, which was chaired by Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Minister of National Defense General Nguyen Tan Cuong, delegates reviewed the General Staff’s proud 81-year history of building, fighting and growing, and expressed their delight at its outstanding achievements in recent years.
Speaking at the meeting, General Nguyen Tan Cuong extended his best wishes for good health, happiness and success to former Ministry of National Defense leaders; current and former General Staff leaders; generals and senior officials; delegates and their families.
He briefed the delegates on key developments in the world, the region and Viet Nam; the outcomes of the 14th National Party Congress, the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term; key contents of the third Plenum of the 14th Party Central Committee and the first extraordinary session of the 16th National Assembly; and major results in military and defense affairs, as well as the tasks of the Viet Nam People’s Army and the General Staff.

Regarding key military, defense and Party-building tasks ahead, General Nguyen Tan Cuong said the General Staff will continue to strengthen its strategic research and advisory role in military and defense affairs, promptly advising the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on successfully handling situations in a timely and effective manner.
The General Staff will continue to play a core role in building an all-people’s defense and defense posture linked with the people’s security and security posture, as well as military region and provincial and municipal defensive areas. It will also advise and direct the flexible, substantive and effective implementation of bilateral and multilateral defense diplomacy in line with Viet Nam’s consistent “peace and self-defense” and “Four No’s” defense policy.
The Chief of the General Staff affirmed that every victory, achievement and step in the General Staff’s development over the past 81 years has been supported by the leadership, direction and timely encouragement of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, as well as the contributions of generations of its officers and soldiers.
