PANO - General Department 2 of the Ministry of National Defense held a conference to review its task performance in 2016 and map out plans for 2017 on the morning of December 24 under the chair of Minister of National Defense General Ngo Xuan Lich.
Deputy Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Nguyen Phuong Nam, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics Lieutenant General Do Can, and other senior officers representing relevant units also attended the event.
At the conference, delegates were briefed upon the general department's task performance in 2016. Highlighting fruitful results, reports also pointed out some shortcomings and canvassed resolutions for the 2017 task implementation.
Having hailed the department's achievements over the past year, General Lich also addressed regional and international issues that may directly impact the army's major tasks in general and the unit in particular in the time to come. He said that the department plays a significant role in the country’s integration process, especially in providing strategic advice for the Party and State to firmly defend the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.
Accordingly, General Lich asked the general department's Party Committee and Party organizations at all levels to continue closely grasping higher levels' instructions and directions as well as smoothly and flexibly implementing all assigned missions. They should attach much importance to conducting political and ideological education for troops, contributing to building a brave and enthusiastic force, he added. Notably, the minister especially required that the general department's tasks in every aspect be put under the direct and absolute leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense.
Apart from that, the minister asked the general department to focus on building strong Party organizations and comprehensive strong units at all levels, so as to fulfill all major political missions under any circumstances.
