Tho Chu is an island in the Southwest of the country, about 100km Southwest of Phu Quoc. It is the largest in the eight islands in the Tho Chu archipelago with an area of about 14 square kilometers. Currently, Tho Chu Island is an administrative unit of Tho Chau commune, Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province.
Tho Chu is an island with favorable natural conditions for socio-economic development and defense-security posture building. From the first 17 households in 1993, the island commune now has more than 540 households with more than 1,800 people. People on the island make livelihood mainly by farming, fishing, and doing tourism services.
After leaving Tho Chu Island, the working delegation visited, extended New Year wishes, and presented gifts to troops of Radar Station 610 of Battalion 551 of the Naval Region 5 Command.
Tasked with the mission of observing and managing targets at sea and in the air at low altitudes, troops of Radar Station 610 have strictly carried out combat readiness duty, considering the island their home, sea their homeland, radar screens the battlefield, and each target their feat-of-arms.
The last destination of the delegation was Regiment 152 of Military Region 9. Over the past time, Regiment 152 has paid attention to raising the quality of training, strictly maintained combat readiness, and patrolled to closely follow situational development and handle circumstances in a timely manner, contributing to firming protecting sovereignty over Tho Chu Island.
Lieutenant Colonel Do Xuan Huong, Deputy Political Commissar of Regiment 152 said that the visit was a great encouragement and motivation for troops to stay firm to protect national sovereignty over sacred sea and islands.
The same day, Ship 529 of Flotilla 516 of the Naval Region 5 Command reached the harbor, taking the working delegation ashore after the four-day trip (from December 20 to 23) to bring lunar New Year gifts to troops and people on islands in the Southwestern region of the nation.
