Reports delivered at the event revealed that over the past time defense agencies and military units have taken drastic measures to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in the military. Particularly, together with carrying out regular training missions, the whole military mobilized forces and prepared sufficient facilities for quarantining citizens returning home from pandemic-hit countries. Border guard units sent their personnel to effectively manage border gates and paths while other units promoted information dissemination to warn the public of pandemic threats.
In addition, military medical forces actively and pro-actively applied drastic measures to detect and treat COVID-19 cases and quarantine those who had close contacts with infected cases while fostering cooperation with Cuba and Russia to study and produce COVID-19 vaccine and medicine. More importantly, the Military Medical University successfully developed a SAR-CoV-2 test kit and conducted the first human trial of the COVID-19 vaccine Nanocovax. Other forces in the military also ensured facilities and resources for COVID-19 prevention and control.
At the conference, delegates also pointed out shortcomings in carrying out the missions, so as to develop suitable measures to contain the pandemic in the coming time.
Addressing the event, General Don praised defense agencies and military units for their achievements in the COVID-19 prevention and control effort. He affirmed that these positive results contributed to the Government’s and Defense Ministry’s efforts in preventing the disease.
