PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don, Deputy Defense Minister and Head of the Steering Board on COVID-19 Prevention and Control under the Ministry of National Defense (MND), joined a teleconference on Covid-19 prevention and control, chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, on August 27.
Lieutenant General Tran Duy Giang, Director of the General Department of Logistics and Major General Nguyen Xuan Kien, Head of the Department of Military Medicine under the General Department of Logistics, also joined the event.
During the conference, General Don briefed Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on COVID-19 prevention and control in the whole military, affirming that amid the complicated development of the pandemic, the Central Military Commission (CMC) and MND implemented urgent measures to prevent and control the disease.
Units throughout the military have embraced and strictly followed Directives 16 and 19 and mandates from the Prime Minister's Standing Government meetings. They also comprehensively implemented all COVID-19 prevention and control measures, especially in Military Region 5 and units stationed in Da Nang city as well as localities with new outbreaks such as Hanoi and Hai Duong.
The MND also tested COVID-19 infections and operated quarantine zones to curb the spread of the pandemic while boosting information dissemination among troops to raise their awareness of the COVID-19.
In addition, the military also actively took measures to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in localities. They tested over 6,000 people forCOVID-19, sprayed disinfectants and strictly controlled border areas. In addition, military units have quarantined Vietnamese people returning home from foreign countries, and boosted cooperation with Cuban experts in studying and producing vaccines. Notably, the ministry assigned the military medical force to host online meetings with international partners to share COVID-19 experiences, contributing to raising Vietnam’s international reputation and fulfilling its role as ASEAN chair in 2020.
In order to improve the COVID-19 fight in the coming time, General Don urged the Government and the Prime Minister to further request localities and functional agencies along the shared borders to closely work with border guards to successfully handle illegal border crossings.
Meanwhile, the Government should continue detecting and cracking down suspects who bring foreigners into Vietnamillegally, and direct the Ministry of Health to build up a master plan for mass testing across the country to find new cases.
