Defense ministry holds gathering for retired senior officers
PANO - On January 8, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense held a gathering for retired senior officers in the Southern region. General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Political Affairs of the Vietnam People's Army, presided over the event.
The delegates included leaders from the Ministry of National Defense, the General Department of Political Affairs, the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; the General Department of Logistical Affairs, the General Department of Technical Services, General Department II, and the Commands of Military Regions 5, 7, and 9; representatives from the Vietnam Veterans’ Association and nearly 300 retired senior officers in the Southern region.

During the gathering, General Luong Cuong, on behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, expressed his delight at the meeting with retired senior officers. He provided an overview of the global, regional, and domestic situation, highlighted achievements in military and defense tasks in 2023, and outlined the key missions in 2024. General Luong Cuong emphasized several outstanding achievements in advisory work for the Party and the State in terms of military affairs, as well as the significant progress made in defense external affairs recently.

General Luong Cuong hoped retired senior officers to continue to make more contribution to the national building and defense cause, deserving to be “Uncle Ho's soldiers.” On the occasion of the upcoming Tet (lunar New Year) 2024, he extended greetings to the families of the attendees and conveyed his wishes for their well-being and happiness.
The annual gathering organized by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense demonstrates the Party, the State, and the military's care for the generations of retired senior officers. It serves as an opportunity to strengthen unity among different generations of defense leaders, fostering a deeper understanding of their thoughts and aspirations, creating consensus on political ideology, and absorbing the invaluable experiences of retired senior officers for the national defense reinforcement, the military development, and safeguarding the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
