The event is held annually to encourage, inquire after and enhance solidarity among retired senior officers while updating them with information related to the country’s socio-economic development and the military’s growth as well as acquiring their valuable experience to further reinforce the national defense, build a strong military, and protect the country.

On behalf of the CMC and MND, General Phan Van Giang expressed his delight at meeting retired senior officers on the first days of new year 2023. He informed the delegates about situations at home and abroad, the activities of hostile forces, achievements in military-defense tasks in 2022 and targets for 2023.
Accordingly, the military was tasked to be built as a neat, compact, strong force by 2025, towards the development of a revolutionary, regular, elite, gradually-modernized military in 2030, contributing to fulfilling all missions assigned by the Party, State, and people, he said.
The defense minister also briefed delegates on outcomes of the defense external affairs over the past time. He noted that the CMC and MND always treasure and highly praise valuable opinions and experience from retired senior officers in the national defense reinforcement, military building and Fatherland protection.
In any circumstances, retired senior officers and those who no longer work for the military are always a reliable and important political force of the Party, the State, the military and people, a source of valuable practical experience, and bright examples for younger cadres and troops to follow, General Phan Van Giang said.

He added that the CMC and MND always wish them to continue to promote Uncle Ho’s soldiers’ traditions, make more contribution to the Party’s revolutionary and the military building cause.
As the lunar New Year is drawing near, General Phan Van Giang wished the delegates and their families success and happiness.
