Defense Minister pays gratitude to former Party, State, military leaders

The activity was on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - 2023).

General Phan Van Giang and his entourage visited the houses of Senior Lieutenant General Le Kha Phieu, former Party General Secretary, former Director of the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army; General Le Duc Anh, former Politburo member, former State President, former Defense Minister; and former Politburo members and former Defense Ministers Generals Vo Nguyen Giap, Van Tien Dung, Doan Khue; General Chu Huy, former Politburo member and former GDP Director; Generals Le Trong Tan and Hoang Van Thai, both former Chiefs of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and former Deputy Defense Ministers.

During the visits, the delegation offered incense and expressed gratitude to the former leaders for their great devotion and contribution to the Party and nation’s revolutionary cause, military building, and defense consolidation.

In a friendly atmosphere, the defense minister inquired after their relatives’ health and life and hoped that they will promote their family’s tradition to further contribute to the nation’s prosperity and civilization.

At the meetings, General Phan Van Giang highlighted the important contribution of the former leaders, in their capacity in different positions, to the resistance wars against the French colonialists and the U.S. imperialists, especially their strategic directions in the General Offensive and Uprising in Spring 1975.

The defense chief also emphasized their creativeness and talent in leadership and command on the battlefields, helping actualize the Party’s strategic decisions, leading to the entire victory of the resistance wars and national reunification.
