The event was held on the occasion of the 78th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army, the 33rd anniversary of the whole people’s defense festive day, and the 50th anniversary of the “Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the air” victory.

General Phan Van Giang offered incense and expressed gratitude to former leaders of the Party, State, and military for their great contribution to the revolutionary cause of the Party and nation, military building, and national defense consolidation. Inquiring after former leaders’ relatives, the defense minister hoped that they would uphold the tradition of their families and make contribution to building prosperous and civilized country.

Earlier the same day, Defense Minister Phan Van Giang visited and presented gifts to General Nguyen Quyet, former member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, former Deputy Chairman of the State Council, former Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs and Lieutenant General Dang Quan Thuy, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly.

At the meeting, General Phan Van Giang inquired after General Nguyen Quyet and Lieutenant General Dang Quan Thuy’s health and wished that they would contribute more valuable ideas to consolidating national defense, safeguarding the nation, and building the military.
