Defense leader urges completion of national airspace surveillance and protection system
PANO - On June 8, Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien chaired a working session with the Air Defense - Air Force Service on the national airspace surveillance and protection system (VQ in short) project and the command automation system.

During the meeting, Gen. Hien inspected the command, control, and combat situation handling through the VQ system.
The inspection focused on assessing the system’s capabilities in information collection, processing and consolidation; air surveillance capacity; airspace management and protection; and the operational effectiveness in various combat scenarios.
Having heard reports on the progress of the VQ project and the command automation system, the defense leader acknowledged the initial achievements of participating agencies and units. He asked the Air Defense-Air Force Service to continue close coordination with relevant agencies and units, resolve difficulties and bottlenecks, and accelerate the implementation of project components in accordance with the approved schedule.

He emphasized that the development of the VQ system and the command automation system is crucial in enhancing the nation’s airspace management and protection capabilities to meet operational requirements in new conditions. Therefore, he urged involved units to ensure quality, interoperability, connectivity, integration, and effective operation of the systems once they enter service.
According to Major General Bui Duc Hien, Second-in-Command and Chief of Staff of the Air Defense - Air Force Service, the Service will continue to maintain the stable operation of the VQ1-M system to effectively support combat readiness, airspace management, and flight control missions. It will also conduct testing, evaluation, and acceptance of the VQ2-M3 system, while ensuring the integrated and synchronized operation of both the VQ1 and VQ2 systems for operational deployment and service use.

The Service will coordinate with the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) to research and upgrade the VQ2 system, focusing on the expanded application of artificial intelligence and big-data processing technologies to support command-and-control decision-making and enhance the mobility and operational effectiveness of command posts at all levels.
