During the first six months of this year, agencies and units across the military closely coordinated and comprehensively and decisively implemented assigned tasks. A number of major and complex programs and projects were successfully completed, creating new momentum for the development of a self-reliant, autonomous, dual-use, and modern defense industry.

Research and development of weapons and military equipment recorded significant new achievements. Defense production to meet military requirements was closely integrated with economic development, contributing to realizing the country’s double-digit economic growth goal.

Attentively, the General Department of Defense Industry gave suggestions to the Ministry of National Defense to accelerate key investment projects aimed at strengthening defense industrial capabilities while expanding commercial production and exports. Projects now in operation are delivering positive investment returns and operational effectiveness.

In his speech, Gen. Nam praised the General Department of Defense Industry and the entire defense industry sector for overcoming challenges and successfully accomplishing their assignments.

Regarding tasks for the second half, the defense leader asked the General Department and the sector to continue strengthening state management and advisory work in support of defense industry development. He asked for enhancement of research and forecasting capacity in order to effectively advise the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on implementing the Government's Action Program and the Ministry's implementation plan for Politburo Resolution No.08-NQ/TW, dated January 26, 2022, on promoting the development of Vietnam's defense industry by 2030 and beyond.

He called for more effective implementation of science and technology programs, with a strong focus on the research and production of advanced, modern weapons and equipment, and the development of new products and mastery of foundational and core technologies in key industrial sectors.

Gen. Nam also requested agencies and units to prioritize the production of advanced weapons and equipment to meet task performance of the Vietnam People's Army. The sector should continue expanding commercial production and exports, actively seek new markets for dual-use products, and strive to exceed planned targets, including achieving revenue growth of over 10 percent across the industry.

He emphasized the need to strengthen international cooperation in the defense industry, promote trade and international marketing, build stronger brands for Vietnamese defense products, and closely monitor global developments relevant to defense industry tasks in order to provide timely recommendations to the leadership of the Ministry of National Defense on defense industrial development and the advancement of military equipment and technology.
