In his commemorative address, Director of the Army Academy Lieutenant General Do Minh Xuong recalled that after the success of the August Revolution in 1945, and in response to the need to train military officers to develop the people's armed forces, safeguard the revolutionary government, and prepare for a protracted resistance war, the first intermediate-level military training course of the Vietnam People's Army was opened on July 7, 1946, in Tong, Son Tay (now Doai Phuong commune, Hanoi). This marked the historic birth of today's Army Academy.

Over the past 80 years of development, the Army Academy has become the country and military's leading center for educating and training tactical- and operational-level command and staff officers, and for conducting military science and military art research.

On the occasion of its 80th foundation anniversary, the institution was honored to receive the First-Class Fatherland Protection Order awarded by the Party and the State of Vietnam, while its collectives and individuals were also presented with the Moha Sena Friendship Order by the Government of Cambodia.

Addressing the ceremony, General Phan Van Giang affirmed that the Army Academy was among the earliest military educational institutions established within the system of military academies and schools. Its establishment and growth have been closely associated with the building, combat, and glorious victories of the Vietnam People's Army, making important contributions to the successes of Vietnamese troops and people in the past resistance wars and in the ongoing national construction and defense cause.
