Given the instructions from Party General Secretary To Lam during his visit to several military units and localities in Ca Mau and An Giang provinces on implementing key defense, security, socio-economic projects in the country’s southwestern region, General Giang emphasized that Tho Chu archipelago holds a strategically vital position in terms of defense and security.

To ensure local residents and military troops enjoy full development rights equal to those on the mainland, the Ministry of National Defense will continue consolidating the maritime defense posture; developing Tho Chau as a strategic support within the southwestern defensive system.

The defense chief added that feasibility studies will be conducted to accelerate residential area development; upgrade the island ring road and transport infrastructure; complete the water supply project; study feasible electricity and telecommunications supply; upgrade the military-civilian clinic, waste treatment plant, and wind power systems to support livelihoods and tourism.
