In February, the GS has directed the entire military to complete assigned tasks, strictly maintain combat readiness, closely monitor situational developments, and promptly handle situations, firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Forces have intensified patrols to prevent illegal entry and exit along borders and at sea; resolutely prevented foreign vessels from violating Vietnam’s waters; protected maritime economic activities; strengthened cyberspace information control; ensured secure communications and cryptographic command; and maintained safe, uninterrupted command systems.

The GS has also developed plans to adjust the organizational structure of the Vietnam People’s Army for the 2026-2030 period and guided the implementation of commune, ward, special zone-level military command staffing in line with Party and Government directives. In addition, alongside ensuring strict discharge procedures, forces on combat duty during Tet, making preparations for the training season 2026, units in the whole military have organized safe and economical Tet celebrations while maintaining readiness. One of the completed missions highlighted in the reviewed month was the successful installation of a pontoon bridge across the Lo River to serve the public.
Concluding the meeting, General Nguyen Tan Cuong commended agencies and units in the entire military for their outstanding task performance. He urged them to continue maintaining high combat readiness, keep a close watch on key areas, in the East Sea (aka South China Sea), in borders and Southwestern waters, and effectively handle situations. He stressed coordination to maintain nationwide security, particularly during elections of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026 -2031 term.

Forces were asked to intensify patrols against illegal immigration; continue to implement high-level operations against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods; prevent foreign vessels from encroaching on Vietnam’s waters; and resolutely combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The GS’s chief emphasized launching the training season 2026 with strong momentum, strengthening military control and discipline, ensuring safety, maintaining secure cryptographic systems, and strictly reviewing and approving weapons and technical equipment in accordance with regulations.
On this occasion, General Cuong presented certificates of merit from the Minister of National Defense to the GS’s Deputy Chiefs Sr. Lt. Gen. Huynh Chien Thang and Lt. Gen. Le Van Huong, and awarded the title of “Grassroots Emulation Warrior” to individuals with outstanding achievements in the Determined-to-Win Emulation Movement 2025.
