Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister and Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Deputy Minister of Public Security co-chaired the conference.

Since the beginning of 2019, the two ministries have regularly exchanged information about situations and promoted coordination to promptly address any complex issues, and effectively suppress various crimes, contributing to firmly protecting national sovereignty, maintaining political stability, public order and security and creating a peaceful environment for the country’s socio-economic development.

In addition, the Ministries of National Defense and Public Security have actively and proactively gave advice to the Party and State as well as local authorities and Party committees on the implementation of defense-security missions.

Meanwhile, the two ministries’ affiliated units also coordinated with each other closely in disseminating the Party and State’s guidelines and laws to over 3 million people, razing 14ha of opium fields, prevent 416 cases of illegal missionary activities with more than 2,000 subjects involved, mobilizing people to hand over 3,600 home-made weapons and successfully busting 11 large drug-related cases seizing over 1,200kg of drugs of different kinds.

Regarding the second half of this year, the two sides agreed to seriously observe resolutions and instructions on defense-security tasks as well as reach high consensus in carrying out their joint missions.

Concluding the event, General Giang underlined that units of the two ministries should further boost their coordination, particularly in ensuring security for the country’s major events and essential targets, making timely recommendations on defense and security issues to the Party and State, while being active in struggling against plots of hostile and reactionary forces, promptly combating crimes, especially human and drug trafficking in border areas and well managing staffed weapons and equipment.
