The talks aimed to review the results of coordination in border management and protection, exchange experience, and reach consensus on future cooperation directions, contributing to building a Viet Nam - Laos border of peace, friendship, stability, and development.
Lieutenant General Vu Trung Kien affirmed that the talks provided an important foundation for the two sides to continue promoting increasingly intensive and practical cooperation between the two border guard forces.

The Vietnamese commander highly appreciated the coordination efforts of both sides in implementing the Protocol on Border Cooperation between the two defense ministries and the minutes of the 2025 talks. In particular, the two sides have strictly maintained the management and protection of the border and national border markers; effectively operated exchange and dialogue mechanisms; achieved practical results in preventing and combating crime; and continued to promote cooperation in education and training.
Regarding future cooperation, Lieutenant General Vu Trung Kien proposed that the two sides maintain information exchange mechanisms, enhance coordination in combating crimes, especially drug trafficking, human trafficking, and illegal entry and exit, and effectively organize delegation exchanges.
He also requested the Lao side to support the initiative “ASEAN Border Guard Forces Join Hands to Build Borders of Peace and Prosperity,” contributing to strengthening cooperation among border protection forces in the region.

Major General Unkham Sivenvongsak agreed with the proposals of the Vietnamese side and expressed his support for the initiative. He affirmed that the Laos Border Guard would continue to coordinate closely with the Viet Nam Border Guard in information exchange, border patrol and control, and the fight against various types of crimes.
The Lao commander suggested that the two sides research appropriate forms of coordination, improve the effectiveness of joint patrols, and strengthen cooperation among frontline professional units. He emphasized the need to share experience and support capacity building for Lao functional forces to meet task requirements in the new situation.

The two commanders expressed their belief that the agreed contents would be effectively implemented through practical activities. Based on the special relationship between the two Parties, States, and militaries, cooperation between the Vietnamese and Lao border guards will continue to develop, contributing to building a border of peace, friendship, cooperation, and sustainable development.
At the end of the talks, Lieutenant General Vu Trung Kien and Major General Unkham Sivenvongsak signed the minutes of the 2026 talks.
