Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan addressing the conference.

PANO - The Border Guards Command should direct its subordinate units to well set up and add more plans on flood and storm prevention and control and search and rescue.

Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army made that request at a conference hosted by the Command on reviewing 2013 natural disaster reduction, search and rescue work on April 2nd.

Last year, border guards actively carried out projects to minimize consequences of floods, storms, fire, explosions and to conduct searches and rescues.

Over 10,000 border cadres and troops, hundreds of vehicles and trawlers of fishermen were mobilized to overcome the aftermath of natural disasters and forest fire. Besides, border guards joined hands in re-building 2,090 houses for flood-hit victims, supported those victims over VND 76 million in resuming their daily life.

This year, the Border Guards Command will keep close eyes on local development to timely deal with emerging issues at border areas, at sea and on islands. Furthermore, they will organize more training, exercises on search and rescue to be active in any circumstances.
