60 years of Agent Orange/Dioxin Disaster to be marked
PANO - The General Department of Logistics of the Vietnam People’s Army and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) held a meeting to discuss activities to mark 60 years of the calamity named “Agent Orange/Dioxin” in Vietnam (August 10, 1961-2021).

The meeting saw the attendance of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, former Deputy Defense Minister and VAVA Chairman, and Lieutenant General Tran Duy Giang, Director of the General Department of Logistics.
At the event, the Central Committee of VAVA asked the General Department of Logistics to assist in providing free health checkups and medicines for some 4,000 victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin and in repairing VAVA’s facilities, and building five gratitude houses, worth VND 50 million each, for victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.
On this occasion, General Giang, assigned unit’s functional bodies to devise plans to carry out the activities with high quality and efficiency to partly ease the pain and difficulties of the victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin. In his speech, General Rinh thanked the military department for its assistance and stressed that in the resistance war against American invaders, Vietnam was heavily damaged by the Agent Orange/Dioxin sprayed by US troops. Despite great efforts to overcome consequences of this agent, many Agent Orange/Dioxin victims are still suffering.
On the occasion, General Giang presented the Central Committee of VAVA VND 100 million.
