On April 10, a delegation from the Ho Chi Minh City Command and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association, led by Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Nam, the command’s chief and also president of the association, visited the Consulate General of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the event, the Vietnamese general extended New Year greetings to Consul General Chan Sorykan and other personnel of the embassy. He informed the host about outstanding activities of the association over the past time, particularly the people-to-people diplomacy, trade connectivity, education on history and traditions of the two countries, and exchanges between the two countries’ enterprises. He emphasized that these friendly and cooperative activities have helped tighten the friendship between the two neighboring countries and strengthen both countries’ cooperation and exchanges in terms of economy, trade, tourism, and education.

Expressing thanks to the command and the association for their visit and wishes, the Cambodian consul general affirmed that in his capacity, he would contribute more to bolstering the ties between Cambodian localities and Ho Chi Minh City and between the two countries, and practically cultivate people-to-people diplomacy activities.

* On the occasion of the Chol Chnam Thmay festival, a mission from the Military Region 7 Command, led by Commanding General Lt. Gen. Nguyen Truong Thang, paid a visit to the Military Region 1 Command of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, Gen. Thang congratulated Cambodia on the country’s socio-economic achievements gained over the past year and thanked the Cambodian government and leaders of units under the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces for their support and assistance to Military Region 7 in its task performance.

He also expressed thanks to the host for directing the Mondulkiri provincial Military Sub-region to uphold solidarity and close-knit ties with the Binh Phuoc provincial Military Command, contributing to maintaining security and order in border areas, creating favorable conditions for people of the two countries to promote trade. He also took this occasion to thank the host for supporting search and collection teams of the Vietnam People’s Army to search for, gather and repatriate remains of fallen Vietnamese volunteer troops and advisors who laid down their lives in the war in Cambodia.

The commander of Cambodia’s Military Region 1 recalled Cambodian fight for independence and expressed deep thanks to the Vietnam People’s Army for helping Cambodians fight the Pol Pot genocidal regime and rebuild the country. He believed that the friendship and neighborliness between the two countries would further develop for the benefits of their people and militaries.

Gen. Thang sent best wishes to generals, officers and soldiers of the host unit and hoped that the friendship, cooperation and relations between the two militaries in general and Military Region 7 of the Vietnam People’s Army and Military Region 1 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces in particular would continue to flourish. 

During their stay in Cambodia, the Military Region 7 delegation offered flowers and incense at the commemorative monument for heroes and fallen volunteer troops from Vietnam in Ba Chong hamlet, Preak Bat ward, Stung Treng province.

* On April 9 and 10, a delegation from Dak Nong provincial Military Command, led by Deputy Political Commissar Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Khoi, extended New Year greetings and provided free health check-ups and medicines to people in Busara commune, Pech Chanda district, Cambodian province of Mondulkiri.

At the event, the Vietnamese guests presented 500 gifts, including rice and other necessities totally worth VND 120 million, to local disadvantaged and policy beneficiary households.

Earlier, another delegation from the command, led by Commanding Officer Sr. Col. Dinh Hong Tieng, visited the Mondulkiri provincial Military Sub-region and presented it with materials valued at VND 200 million to build a garage. 

* Also on April 9 and 10, the Binh Phuoc provincial Military Command sent a mission to congratulate troops of Cambodia’s Kratie provincial Military Sub-region and Gendarmerie Command on the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay Festival.

During the visits, Vietnamese command’s chief Sr. Col. Vo Thanh Danh and the host units’ leaders discussed and agreed to boost exchange of information about political security, social order and safety of localities where they are stationed, share experience in building comprehensively-strong units, operating search and rescue activities, jointly fight against crimes, hold young officers exchanges, sport and cultural exchanges, and support the search and collection of sets of remains of fallen Vietnamese volunteer troops and advisors in Cambodia.
