Addressing the ceremony, Brigadier General Ameer Muhammad Umrani, Deputy Force Commander of UNISFA expressed his deep respect and high appreciation for the unwavering efforts of the Engineering Company Rotation 3 during task performance.
He highlighted Vietnamese engineers’ implementation of various tasks, including building infrastructure, opening supply and patrol routes, repairing airports, and supporting Abyei residents. According to the UNISFA leader, Vietnamese engineers not only successfully completed UNISFA’s mandates, but also excelled in assisting the local community. “Wherever you go in Abyei, local residents are waiting for your support,” he said.
Speaking highly of the professionalism of Vietnamese blue-berets and Vietnam’s commitment to U.N. peacekeeping operations, Brigadier General Umrani stressed that the medal was a well-deserved recognition of their valuable contribution.

In her speech, Minister of Peace and Reconciliation of Abyei Abionweng Majith expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese Engineering Company for excellently fulfilling their tasks in Abyei. According to her, Vietnamese engineers have helped change local residents’ mindset on UNISFA. They have built high quality roads, thereby transforming the lives of many locals. “Thank you for coming here you’re your professionalism, love, and cooperation with the community,” she said.
She recalled that wherever she visited, schools or roads, local people said that Vietnamese engineers supported them. From these simple things, Vietnamese peacekeepers earned friendship and good impressions from local people and authorities. “I hope that you will continue to contribute to the community and local residents here. Thank you,” she stated.
For his part, head of the nine Dinka tribes Bulabek Deng Koul expressed gratitude to and wish to receive continued support from the Vietnamese Engineering Company.
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Hao, head of the Engineering Company Rotation 3 and also the Vietnamese peacekeeping force at UNISFA, confirmed that the U.N. Medal was not only a noble reward from the U.N. for each Vietnamese blue-beret’s active and effective contribution, but also a symbol of their unsung dedication and sacrifices.

During the event, international delegates visited a photo exhibition and watched a documentary on the unit’s outstanding attainments in Abyei.
On the occasion, UNISFA’s leader presented U.N. Medal to some officers of the working group of the Ministry of National Defense and representatives of foreign peacekeeping forces to recognize their practical coordination and support during the task performance at the mission.
Non-commission Major Mai Thi Hang said that all sacrifices here were worthy when she witnessed local residents’ improved lives. The medal served as an encouragement for her and the comrades to continue contributing to the U.N. peacekeeping cause.
At the event, the host and guest joined a party and tasted Vietnam’s traditional food.
