Congratulating Colonel Tamura Takao on his appointment, Gen. Chien expressed his belief that the Colonel would continue to build upon the achievements of his predecessors and bring forward new initiatives to further enhance the Vietnam - Japan defense cooperation in a practical and effective manner.

Gen. Chien affirmed that over the past time, the bilateral defense ties have received strong guidance and support from the senior leaderships of the two countries, yielding practical results in delegation exchange at all levels, especially high-level visits; effective maintenance of consultation and dialogue mechanisms, particularly the Deputy Minister-level Defense Policy Dialogue.

Meanwhile, both sides have also actively promoted cooperation in education and training, defense industry, U.N. peacekeeping operations, and capacity-building programs in UXO clearance, cybersecurity, and war legacy remediation, among others.

An overview of the reception

Regarding the cooperation orientations in the time to come, Gen. Chien required the guest to closely coordinate with functional agencies of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense (MND) to continue effectively implementing areas of mutual interest, affirming that the Vietnamese MND would create all favorable conditions for Colonel Tamura Takao to successfully fulfill his mission.

For his part, Colonel Tamura Takao emphasized that, based on the consensus reached by senior leaders of both countries, especially following Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru’s official visit to Vietnam in April this year, as well as agreements between the two defense ministries, he hoped to further promote a more substantive and effective defense cooperation between the two countries.
