During the meeting, the two sides exchanged information on the status and results of their respective U.N. peacekeeping efforts, emphasizing the importance of bilateral cooperation in capacity building, standardization of operations, and reaffirming their commitment to continued mutual support in multilateral frameworks.

An overview of the meeting

Speaking at the meeting, Major General Pham Manh Thang provided an overview of Vietnam’s participation in U.N. peacekeeping missions, highlighting the passage of the Law on Participation in U.N. Peacekeeping Operations by the Vietnamese National Assembly in June 2025 as a key legal foundation for promoting international cooperation in the field. He also appreciated Australia’s consistent and effective support over the past decade, especially in English language training, professional capacity building, and logistical assistance.

As part of the meeting, the two sides signed a three-year implementation Plan (2025-2027) to carry out the Peacekeeping Partnership Arrangement signed between the two governments in 2024. The plan outlines priority cooperation areas, including organizing intensive training courses, exchanging delegations, enhancing the participation of female service members, and pre-deployment training for peacekeeping forces.

Mr. Bernard Philip praised Vietnam’s increasingly active role in peacekeeping missions and expressed confidence in the growing and practical cooperation between the two countries. Both sides also agreed to promote substantive activities under the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and accelerate the process of obtaining U.N. recognition for Vietnam’s peacekeeping training programs.
