At the teleconference

Vietnam’s participants included leaders from the Department of Military Medicine under the General Department of Logistics, the Military Medical Academy, the Department of Foreign Relations under the Ministry of National Defense, and the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center.

Likewise, the Russian delegates are experts from the S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy, the Burdenko Central Military Hospital, and representatives of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing.

Speaking at the event, Major General Nguyen Xuan Kien, Director of Vietnam’s Department of Military Medicine congratulated their Russian friends on their achievements during the COVID-19 fight, an effort that included considerable contributions from the Russian military medical force. He told Russian officers that Vietnam has gone more than 50 straight days without community transmission.

However, the country has not yet declared victory over the disease, as it is still reporting imported cases and the situation in the world remains complicated with high risks of new outbreaks, he added. Therefore, studying and sharing disease prevention and control experience, especially in the prevention of cross infection or infection from concentrated quarantine facilities to the community, is essential, the Vietnamese representative stressed.

During the event, medical experts of the two defense ministries discussed numerous issues of mutual concern and shared experiences in COVID-19 prevention and control.

The activity is in line with Vietnam’s policy of intensifying international cooperation in this field, thus contributing to consolidating the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in general and the bilateral defense ties in particular.
