Vietnam, US expand cooperation in war consequence relief
PANO – Overcoming war consequences is one of the priorities in the Vietnam-US relations in general and also is a driving force to boost the bilateral defense cooperation.
This was stated at a reception hosted by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Vietnamese Deputy-Defense Minister, for Mr. Kelly McKeague, Director of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) of the US, at the Headquarters of the Defense Ministry in Hanoi on March 19.

In addition, both sides agreed that the search for the remains of servicemen missing in action is a meaningful humanitarian work, making contributions to heightening mutual trust, understanding, and cooperation between the two countries.
General Vinh underlined that the Vietnamese Defense Ministry welcomed any appropriate initiatives to improve effective operations of locating MIA soldiers as well as to promote the bilateral cooperation in other searches for remains of MIA servicemen, including cleaning Agent Orange/dioxin-polluted soil and clearing bombs, mines, explosives and other ordnance.
General Vinh also hoped that the two countries will continue to raise their peoples’ awareness of their joint progress in addressing the aftermath of war.
