General Cuong expressed his delight at recent fine developments in the bilateral defense relations, particularly bilateral cooperation in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

He thanked the UK for its support for Vietnam’s preparation and deployment of its level-2 field hospital to the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan by providing training courses on English language, experience sharing, and capacity building for the Vietnamese level-2 field hospital’s staff, and by transferring equipment to the Vietnamese hospital.

“Thanks to international assistance and support, including that of the UK, Vietnam successfully deployed the hospital to the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, marking a new important milestone in Vietnam’s participation in peacekeeping operations,” Cuong noted.

General Cuong suggested that both sides continue to increase expertise and experience sharing in military medicine, and hoped that the UK will provide support for Vietnam’s preparation of its second level-2 field hospital that is expected to replace the first one at the end of this year.

The military medicine sectors of the two sides should enhance coordination and cooperation in the coming time, he added. “The Vietnamese Ministry of Defense will create the best conditions for its military medicine to cooperate closely and effectively with the UK’s,” General Cuong affirmed.

At the meeting, Millar stressed that his country wants to promote bilateral cooperation in defense in general and military medicine in particular with Vietnam, in a more practical and effective manner.

He highly valued the outcomes of Vietnam’s first level-2 field hospital operating in the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, and affirmed that he would discuss with the Vietnamese side approaches to boost cooperation in military cooperation in the time to come.
