PANO – Vietnam treasures the practical support provided by Slovakia to the S-shaped nation during its anti-American resistance war. In the coming time, the two countries’ relationship will develop considerably.

General Phung Quang Thanh, Vietnamese Minister of National Defence, made this statement at the talks with his Slovak counterpart Martin Glvac on June 9th, during his visit to Vietnam.

Previously, General Phung Quang Thanh hosted a reception for the Slovak guest.

At the talks, the two defence ministers exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern and agreed to boost their bilateral defence cooperation, focusing on delegation exchanges.

Slovak minister Martin Glvac affirmed that Slovakia is willing to cooperate with Vietnam in its defence industry, and education and training, while General Phung Quang Thanh urged Slovakia to provide training courses for Vietnamese officers and share experience in carrying out UN peacekeeping operations.

At the end of the talks, General Phung Quang Thanh and Mr. Martin Glvac inked the memorandum of understanding on bilateral defence cooperation, which is considered a legal foundation to lift Vietnam-Slovakia defence ties to a new height for the sake of peace and stability in each region and also in the world.

During his visit to Vietnam, the Slovak minister chaired a gathering between Slovak defence firms and the Vietnam-Slovakia Friendship Association, paid respect to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Ba Dinh Square, offered incense at the Memorial of Heroic Martyrs in Bac Son Street in Hanoi, toured Hanoi’s tourist destinations, and visited some units of the Vietnam People’s Army. He will also pay a courtesy call to State President Truong Tan Sang.
