According to the report delivered by the VPC Director, Colonel Hoang Kim Phung, Vietnam has sent 12 officers to the UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan (UNMISS) and Central African Republic (MINUSCA) since June 2014. The Vietnamese peacekeeping personnel overcame difficulties to fulfill their missions with absolute safety and received compliments from leaders of the UN peacekeeping missions for their sense of discipline, solidarity, responsibility and mutual assistance. In addition, the country is ready to deploy a level-two field hospital and an engineering company to UN peacekeeping missions according to its set plan for the 2014-2020 period, he stressed.
Addressing the conference, General Tuan said that the Vietnam peacekeeping operations were one of the most outstanding achievements of the defense external affairs over the past two years. He highly valued efforts of the Vietnamese peacekeeping officers in UN peacekeeping missions. After all, he urged the VPC to closely work with relevant agencies to send more officers and deploy units to UN peacekeeping missions as planned.
