The statement was made by Senior Colonel Ngo Van Vinh, Head of the Chemical team of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) after the “Safe Environment” event in the framework of the Army Games 2020 which was taking place in Kostroma city.
This is the first time the VPA’s Chemical team has joined the “Safe Environment” event in Russia. According to Senior Colonel Ngo Van Dinh, the regulations of this year’s contest changed 80% in comparison with the last year’s event held in China.

In this year’s competition, the Chemical team competed with strong competitors, such as those from the host country of Russia, China, Armenia who have been participating in such an event for years with high results. In addition, the differences in weather, training fields, and living conditions also negatively affected the Vietnamese chemical troops’ physical strength.
The largest challenge for the team is to use specialized vehicle BTR-80 which the VPA has not been equipped with. Therefore, it took a lot of time for the chemical team to familiarize with this new type of vehicle.
Nevertheless, the team has overcome the difficulties during training and competition, thanks to all timely direction and support of the Ministry of National Defense. Furthermore, all members of the Vietnamese chemical team have good physical health, professional competence and field experience as they have participated in both international and domestic contests before. During their preparation and training for the Army Games 2020, they also received great technical assistance from the organizing panel as well as the encouragement from overseas Vietnamese community in Russia.
Concluding the “Safe Environment” event, the Vietnamese Chemical team ranked fourth among the nine teams.
The Army Games 2020 marked the second time the VPA’s Chemical team has taken part in such a big international competition. During the event, the team has left a deep impression on both participating teams and Russians, contributing to promoting solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and countries participating in Army Games 2020, especially between Vietnam and Russia.
