Vietnam - Russia defense cooperation boosted
PANO - Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien is leading a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) to pay a working visit to Russia from July 5-7 at the invitation of leaders of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
On July 6, Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien paid a courtesy call on the host Minister of Defense General Sergei Shoigu in Moscow.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese general conveyed Vietnamese Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang’s regards and invitation to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time to General Sergei Shoigu.
He emphasized the flourishing and time-tested friendship between the two countries and confirmed that the Vietnamese MND always attaches importance to developing the cooperation relationship with the Russian counterpart to be commensurate with Vietnam - Russia comprehensive strategic partnership and in line with the joint statement on the vision of the partnership by 2030 signed in November 2021.

For his part, General Sergei Shoigu expressed thanks to the guest for accepting the invitation to visit Russia. He treasured the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia and stressed that he will pay attention to directing and fostering the bilateral defense ties, especially in the fields of high-level delegation exchange, training, and cooperation in military technology.
The Russian general accepted his Vietnamese counterpart’s invitation to officially visit Vietnam and promised to arrange the visit in the soonest time.
In the morning the same day, Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien and a leader of the Russian Ministry of Defense co-chaired the sixth Vietnam - Russia Defense Strategic Dialogue, during which the two sides reviewed outcomes of the bilateral defense ties over the past time and mapped out cooperation orientations for the coming time.

On July 7, the Vietnamese deputy defense minister, as head of the Vietnamese Sub-committee of the Intergovernmental Coordinating Committee for the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center, co-chaired a meeting of the committee with head of the Russian Sub-committee, a Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia.
