Vietnam Coast Guard delegation departs for joint patrol with Chinese counterparts
PANO - On April 20, Coast Guard Ships 8003 and 8004, together with a delegation from the Coast Guard Region 1 Command, led by Senior Colonel Luong Cao Khai, Deputy Commander and Chief-of-Staff of the Coast Guard Region 1 Command, departed from Dinh Vu Port, Hai Phong City, to carry out a joint patrol mission with the China Coast Guard in the waters adjacent to the Gulf of Tonkin delimitation line.
This is the first joint patrol in 2025 between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the China Coast Guard in this maritime area.
Joining the Vietnamese delegation are representatives from the Border Guard Commands and Departments of Agriculture and Environment of several coastal provinces and cities, the Fisheries Surveillance Sub-department Region 1, the Customs Sub-department Region 3, and the Hai Phong Municipal Public Security.

The joint patrol will be conducted from April 20 to 25, covering 13 designated points along a route of 255.5 nautical miles.
Speaking at the pre-departure mission briefing, Lieutenant Colonel Ngo The Trung, Second-in-Command and Chief-of-Staff of Squadron 11, emphasized that the purpose of this joint patrol is to maintain security and order in the Gulf of Tonkin area, while fostering cooperation and mutual understanding between the coast guard forces of Vietnam and China. The patrol also contributes to the conservation and sustainable exploitation of marine resources, as well as to raising legal awareness among fishermen operating in the area.

During the mission, the Vietnam Coast Guard and China Coast Guard will carry out a range of joint activities, including direct communications via radio, monitoring and inspecting fishing vessels operating near the delimitation line, providing legal information and guidance to fishermen, and conducting search and rescue drills.
