The patrol covered a 120-nautical-mile stretch, from Point 1 to Point 9 along the demarcation line in the Gulf of Tonkin. This area is a key hub for import-export activities and trade between Vietnam and China. However, it is also a hotspot for illegal activities, such as smuggling, commercial fraud, illegal cargo transport, border crossing, and unauthorized sea entry.

During the patrol, the Vietnamese Coast Guard actively engaged with local fishermen, reminding them to strictly follow regulations and combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, contributing to lifting the European Commission’s (E.C.) "yellow card" warning, and ensuring the sustainable development of the country’s fisheries sector.
This marked the fifth joint patrol in the border waters since 2024, conducted quarterly by the Vietnamese and Chinese coast guard forces. The initiative aimed to maintain maritime security and order, ensure law compliance among local fishermen, and strengthen the traditional friendship between the two nations.
