Earlier the same day, following activities in Tay Ninh province, the second Vietnam - Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange continued to take place in Svay Rieng province of Cambodia.

A welcoming ceremony for the Vietnamese delegation, led by Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang, was solemnly held at Bavet International Border Gate under the chair of General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Cambodia.

The two ministers painted and saluted the border marker before planting a friendship tree and observing a joint patrol by the border protection forces of the two countries.

In recent years, cooperation between Vietnam’s border guard force and Cambodia’s border protection units has been a highlight, contributing significantly to building a border of peace, friendship, stability, and development. The two sides have established close coordination in implementing border management agreements and regulations; regularly conducted joint patrols; promptly exchanged information; and effectively prevented illegal border crossings and transnational crimes. This cooperation has also facilitated cross-border trade and daily activities of residents on both sides.

Notably, the two forces have carried out various practical cooperative initiatives to strengthen trust and mutual support, such as twinning border posts and residential clusters.

With the active participation of ministries, sectors, local authorities, and border residents, and the effective cooperation between the border protection forces, the political security and social order along the entire Vietnam - Cambodia border have remained stable. Border markers and boundary lines have been well managed and protected, contributing to ensuring security and fostering a peaceful, stable, cooperative, and developing border region.

Also on the day, delegations from both countries attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the Sang Sovan Primary School, a friendship project in Svay Teap district, Svay Rieng province.

Sang Sovan Primary School is being constructed on a 30,000m² site, funded entirely by Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense. The project comprises seven buildings, along with a football field, volleyball court, and recreational sports facilities. Once completed, the school will accommodate more than 400 students. The construction site holds revolutionary significance and reflects the historic bonds between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vietnamese defense leader emphasized that the project represents more than a new school, it is a vivid symbol of the traditional solidarity and friendship between the two nations. He affirmed that the project demonstrates the deep concern of both defense ministries and militaries for education, especially for the younger generation, who will shape the future of their countries.

He recalled that throughout history, the militaries and peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia have stood shoulder to shoulder, overcoming tremendous hardships in their struggles against colonialism, imperialism, and the genocidal regime, bringing independence, freedom, and happiness to their peoples. Today, both countries continue to preserve and strengthen their relationship through practical, meaningful actions.

“The construction of the Sang Sovan Primary School is clear evidence that our friendship extends beyond defense and security cooperation to nurturing the next generation. I believe that once completed, the school will sow the seeds of knowledge, nurture students’ dreams, and serve as a lasting bridge of goodwill between the militaries and peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia. I wish that the school will be soon completed and put into operation, its teachers and students will reap great success in teaching and learning activities, becoming a leading educational institution in the locality,” General Giang stated.

Earlier the same day, the two delegations visited the headquarters of the Svay Rieng Provincial Gendarmerie Command. Established in 1994, the command is responsible for maintaining security and public order, combating crime, ensuring defense and security, conducting rescue and disaster relief, engaging in civil affairs, and promoting international cooperation.
