PANO – General Phung Quang Thanh, Vietnam’s Defence Minister, received visiting Major General Pehin Tawih, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, on June 8th.

The host welcomed the Bruneian guest and held that the two armies should continue beefing up their defence cooperation.

The Vietnamese Minister also hoped that Brunei would further make important contributions to peace and cooperation in the region as well as to solidarity among ASEAN member states.

The guest thanked the host for a warm reception, and believed that the two countries in general and armies in particular would see more development in the bilateral relations in the coming time.

Earlier the same day, Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defence Minister, held talks with Major General Pehin Tawih.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese officer underlined that the Brunei officer’s visit to Vietnam would contribute to the relationship and mutual understanding between the two armies and peoples, and praised Brunei’s role and position in the international arena and also in the region.

Both sides agreed to heighten their defence relationship in the coming time, particularly through delegation exchanges, education and training, young officer meetings, information sharing and naval forces.

They stressed the necessary of their further cooperation on multi-faceted issues, especially within the framework of defence cooperation among ASEAN member countries.
