According to Senior Colonel Tran Quoc Khoi, Deputy Political Commissar of the Can Tho municipal Military Command, over the past few days, hundreds of armed forces' troops, together with Thoi Lai district’s departments and organizations and local people, engaged in many practical activities, including building social welfare projects, “great solidarity” and gratitude houses; presenting gifts to policy beneficiaries and poor families; and offering bicycles to disadvantaged students; among others.

In addition, the organizing panel carried out cultural and artistic exchange programs, sports activities, folk games, and a competition to make traditional cakes of the Khmer people, to name but a few.

Most Venerable Dao Nhu, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Council and Head of the Executive Board of the Can Tho municipal Buddhist Sangha, underlined that the festival contributed to tightening the military-civilian solidarity and consolidating people’s trust, especially the Khmer people, in the Party and State’s policies.

On April 9-13, the Vinh Long provincial Military Command conducted a military-civilian festival for Khmer people in Tan My commune, Tra On district to welcome the Chol Chnam Thmay festival.

Major General Ho Van Thai, Political Commissar of Military Region 9 (MR9), affirmed that these activities helped raise the spiritual and material life of the Khmer people, especially those in remote and needy areas. In the time to come, MR9 will hold more meaningful activities in localities with a large number of Khmer people, he added.

* On April 13 in Hanoi, the Commando Officers Candidate School held a meeting with Lao and Cambodian cadets on the occasion of their traditional New Year festivals Bunpimay and Chol Chnam Thmay.

During the meeting, the school’s Rector Senior Colonel Nguyen Xuan Binh extended New Year greetings and presented gifts to the cadets. He hoped that they would study hard to achieve higher academic results and then apply acquired knowledge in real situations to successfully accomplish their assignments.

Delegates enjoyed art performances by Lao, Cambodian and Vietnamese cadets, showing the long-standing solidarity among the three countries. The event also offered good opportunities for Lao and Cambodian cadets to exchange with Vietnamese ones and learn more about cultural traditions of the three countries.
