Accordingly, from April 10 to 12, in Dinh Mon commune, Thoi Lai district, Can Tho city, the local armed forces, together with monks at the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Academy, and Khmer people, implemented many meaningful activities, such as building gratitude houses, cleaning the environment, installing light systems, presenting gifts to needy families, handing over bicycles to needy students, and providing free health check-ups and medicines for policy households.

They also launched many other programs, such as cultural and sports exchange, folk games, and Tet cakes (cylindrical glutinous rice cakes) making, among others.

According to Senior Colonel Pham Ngoc Quang, Political Commissar of the Can Tho city Military Command, the whole city is home to nearly 20,000 Khmer people. Over the past years, the unit and the local authorities have actively taken care of the ethnic people.

This year’s Chol Chnam Thmay Festival is held in Dinh Mon commune, Thoi Lai district. This is a meaningful program, creating an opportunity for the local armed forces to care for the locals, while further promoting the military-civilian ties, especially towards ethnic groups.

The traditional festival also helps encourage ethnic groups in general, and Khmer people in particular, to build an urban civilized and new rural lifestyle; eradicate customs and habits that are not good and outdated; preserve and promote good cultural values of the region; boost great national unity’s strength; and join hands to build the all-people's national defense and people’s security posture.

The Chol Chnam Thmay Festival of Khmer people takes place from April 14 to 16.
