The two patients were V.Kahm V.xay (male), born in 1963 in Nonsavang ward, Sikhotabong district, Vientiane and V.Di N.Phon (female), born in 1998 in Thakhaekkang commune, Thakhae district, Khammuouane province, Laos.

After thorough preparations, doctors and nurses of the two hospitals performed the two kidney transplants at 8:00 on December 31, 2022, and finished the surgeries at 19:00 on the same day.

Speaking at the press conference, a leader of the Lao Military Central Hospital affirmed that the two successful operations marked a new chapter in the history of Laos’ medical sector, boosting friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and mutual support between Vietnam and Laos, as well as the two militaries.

In the time to come, the Lao Military Central Hospital will continue cooperating with Vietnam’s Military Hospital 103 to perform kidney transplants at the Lao hospital, send medical staff to Vietnam to improve their capability, and ensure the quality of facilities, equipment, medical supplies, and medicine for surgeries.

On the occasion, Vietnam’s Military Hospital 103 gave 1,000 sets of patient clothes and various medicines and supplies for kidney transplantation to the Lao hospital.
