The event was attended by Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Chansamone Chanyalath; Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security General Vilay Lakhamphong; and nearly 300 Lao military officers once studying in Vietnam, and representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy, Defense Attaché and Vietnamese community in Laos.

Addressing the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Luong Dinh Hong expressed his delight at the development of the Vietnam-Laos great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation which was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Presidents Kaysone Phomvihane and Suphanouvong, and has been nurtured by generations of the two countries’ leaders. In addition, the Lao People’s Army also sent its troops to study in military schools and academies of the Vietnam People’s Army. The Vietnamese Defense Ministry and functional units as well as schools and academies have created favorable conditions and supported Lao military officers during their time in Vietnam.

He hoped that the Lao Party, State and Defense Ministry would continue send more troops to join education and training programs in Vietnam, affirming that the Vietnamese side would enthusiastically do their best to help Lao troops.

He also believed that former Lao military officers would contribute to building the Lao People’s Army into a revolutionary, elite and modern military in the cause of national construction and safeguarding, while tightening the Vietnam-Laos special friendship.

An overview of the event

For his part, General Chansanmone Chanyalath affirmed that the Lao Party, State, and people always bear in mind the support of the Vietnam People’s Army during its cause of national construction and defense. In its foreign policy, Laos always attaches much importance to preserving and developing great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, peoples, militaries and peoples to a new height.

He emphasized that the Vietnam-Laos great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation is a unique and beautiful tradition in the world, an important and decisive factor in the victories of the two countries’ revolutionary cause.

On this occasion, General Chansanmone Chanyalath thanked the Vietnamese Party, Government, military and people, especially Vietnamese instructors at military schools and academies for their support to Lao military officers during their stay in Vietnam. He noted that many of them become high-ranking officers of the Lao military.

The Lao defense ninister at the same time underscored that Lao military officers once studying in Vietnam should promote and educate the youths about the special friendship between the two countries.
