Military Region 2 has also worked closely with Lao counterparts in the search for, collection, and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and advisors who sacrificed their lives during wartime in Laos. Specifically, since 1994, with the substantial support and assistance of Party committees, authorities, armed forces, and people of the Northern Lao provinces, Military Region 2 has recovered and repatriated 1,870 sets of remains of fallen Vietnamese soldiers for reburial in their homeland.
After administrative restructuring, Military Region 2 now maintains twinning relations between 10 of its units and 11 units in Northern Laos, including the twinning relationship between the Phu Tho Provincial Military Command and the Luangnamtha Provincial Military Command.
On behalf of the Lao delegation, Sr. Lt. Gen. Khamking Phuilamanyvong expressed his delight at Military Region 2’s armed forces’ achievements in leadership, direction, and the effective performance of military and defense tasks.
