He underlined that defense cooperation has always been one of the important pillars in the two countries’ relations, positively contributing to consolidating political trust, solidarity, and close-knit bonds between the two militaries. He also highlighted diverse and widely spread defense cooperation forms and mechanisms, the strong maintenance of order and security in the shared border areas, due importance attached to human resource training cooperation, and more effective collaboration in the defense industry and defense economy.
The Vietnamese defense chief congratulated Laos on successfully assuming the ASEAN Chair in 2024. He highly praised the earlier talks between the chiefs of General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and the Lao People's Army.
He suggested the two sides closely coordinate to effectively realize the orientations of the two countries’ cooperative ties reached at the meeting of top Party leaders of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia in February this year and the cooperation contents agreed by the two defense ministries’ leaders.
More focus should be made on making breakthroughs in quality of training cooperation and human resource development, cooperating to manage and protect the borders, performing staff role on military and defense affairs, supporting Laos in building U.N. peacekeeping force, and jointly organizing the annual meeting among defense ministers of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia this year, the defense leader said.
Expressing thanks to the host for the reception, the Lao general sent regards from the Lao Minister of National Defense to Gen. Phan Van Giang.
He reported on the outcomes of the talks between the two militaries’ high-ranking delegations, emphasizing the two sides’ high appreciation for the two militaries’ cooperation achievements in the past and the effective collaboration between the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and the LPA according to the signed cooperation plans between the two defense ministries.
The Lao general also took this chance to thank the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for its support for Laos during its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024.
