PANO – Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, on May 15th received a visiting mission from the US Marine Corps War College.
The general briefed the US delegates on China’s illegal placement of the oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 deep in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, adding that Vietnam is determined to protect its sovereignty at sea through dialogue and peaceful means based on international law.
In addition, he also voiced pleasure at achievements of defence cooperation between the two sides over the past time. Notably, Vietnam’s UN peacekeeping force will begin its operation in the coming time, and Vietnam hopes to receive experience from the US.
For his part, Colonel Keil Gentry, Director of the college, thanked General Tuan for his reception to the delegation, and said that their visit to Vietnam aimed to study experience of the Vietnam People’s Army in building up the armed forces and conducting education and training.
