At the reception, General Giang congratulated Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko on his new position in Vietnam and believed that the diplomat will support and contribute effectively to the Vietnam - Russia bilateral ties in general and defense cooperation between the two countries in particular.
General Giang stressed that the Vietnam People’s Army and Vietnamese people have always treasured the long-standing traditional friendship and the great support of the Soviet/Russian people to Vietnam then and now. The relationship has been lifted up to a comprehensive strategic partnership with high levels of political trust on various fields, in which defense cooperation plays a pivotal role.
The defense minister held that despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese and Russian defense ministries are resolved to effectively carry out their cooperation plan in 2021, contributing to consolidating and enhancing the bilateral defense ties. The two sides have focused on online meetings and talks, training, military technology cooperation, and donation of medical supplies to help combat the pandemic, he added.

The Vietnamese defense ministry has sent delegations to the International Army Games 2021 and the International Military-Technical Forum (Army 2021), along with two frigates which had attended a fleet review in Russia’s Vladivostok city, General Giang told the Russian ambassador.
The minister applauded both sides’ coordination in building documents as part of the dossier marking the 70th anniversary of defense cooperation between Vietnam and the Soviet Union/Russia.
He went on to say that the Defense Ministry and the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia are working to secure an amount of vaccine to present to the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense to inoculate officers and soldiers working in the front-line of the pandemic fight.
For his part, Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko thanked General Giang for his reception and pledged to work to promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, including the defense ties, in the time to come.
